Composing, composing, and more composing
I haven’t had a much time this year to devote to playing shows or releasing new music. My composing career has been growing righteously, and the timing is perfect with our little guy crawling around and my wife not working. Clients in the last few months include Home Depot, Honda Insight, PGiLife, Pure Inventions, Banana Republic, Stanford Financial, Axxe, and others...
I just finished scoring a documentary called Claiming The Title, which will be showing as part of the Frameline Festival in San Francisco. Its a fascinating short film documenting the struggle of San Francisco’s gay community against the US Olympic Committee over the freedom to use the word ‘Olympics’. The showing is June 21st, 3pm, at the Castro Theatre.

New song in movie American Teen, soundtrack available from Columbia Records
I wrote a song called Train for the movie American Teen (Paramount Vantage) which is hitting theaters this week. The song is a mellow, acoustic finger picking song. It’s available on Itunes as an individual digital download or you can buy the CD of the soundtrack at Amazon or any music store. To buy it on Itunes, click here.

Manager Brian Schwartz in the house
Brian Schwartz, manager of Dinosaur Jr, Jeffrey Lewis, J Mascis (among other bands) has expressed an interest in working with me. He’s a true fan, and I’m flattered. I’ve never worked with a manager for my own music, and I’m excited to see where this takes things.

More songs on MTV’s Life of Ryan
Even though I don’t know which song was used or which episode it was in, a song from Pressure was apparently on MTV’s Life of Ryan this week. Not that anyone would know because they don’t list artists in the credits and I cant find information anywhere. But hey, it’s MTV and I should be happy. They used “Lost in the Stars” last year. I wonder which one it was this time.

Commercials pay the bills
In the last couple of months I have written music for TV commercials that have aired for Wendys, Tylenol, Head & Shoulders, and Wachovia Bank. Pretty weird, huh? I never imagined I’d be doing this. I also have created music for a fair amount of websites, including this crazy one for Tostitos.
No more frozen pizza! Yay for me.

Skye Henry Tift Lannon is born!
What an amazing day! Last night, at 9pm, our son Skye was born. We had a natural birth, at home, in a water tub, with a midwife and doula. It was fantastic, magical, beautiful. I’m a dad now. Expect some new lyrical directions in the future...

MTV-U love
While at SXSW this year, I was invited to the MTV-U studio to perform for their Ahead of the Curve feature. It was a ton of fun, and was the highlight of SXSW. The rented a huge warehouse space in Austin and brought in big film cameras, lights and tracks for the camera to roll on. They filmed us playing the end of the song Better With Nothing from my latest album Pressure and they are broadcasting the footage on air. You can see it here.

I will be touring with my ‘acoustic’ band out to SXSW this year. Laurie Henry is singing backups and handling percussion duties, and Tim Hingston is playing swirly guitar. We will be playing songs from Pressure and Chemical Friends. Hope to see you out there.

I was invited to play in the Noisepop festival opening up for The Walkmen at the Independent. It was an awesome show! The full band was in action - Donny on drums, Yuki on bass, Tim on guitar and Laurie singing backups. Thank you Noisepop for such a great night.

Myspace Featured Artist
Wow, out of nowhere I have appeared on the front of Myspace this week. Needless to say, I’m psyched to have so many people hearing my music for the first time (even if most of the emails I am receiving have been ‘give me your contact over there’ and ‘indie rock sucks’)
